About Hair We Go

I started writing about hair my senior year in college.  It was the subject of  my senior thesis that explored why so many black women insisted on having their hair relaxed.  Even more challenging was the psychological truama I endured in my attempt to grow “out of” my  relaxer.

When I wrote the thesis over 10 years ago the subject of “natural hair”  was still relatively new and rarely discussed.  Now there are websites, blogs, movies  and books on the topic.   I wanted  to create a resource for women who are contending with the mental battle of returning to their God-Given right to wear their hair without having to use straighteners.

After speaking with men I realized that hair was a significant  issue for both men and women.   I want to use the blog to explore some of those concerns and why.

Hair is a delicate and sensitive topic so I approach it with that understanding and I also realize there is much I dont know about the topic, so I hope to learn as well.  Your commentary feedback and suggestions are welcomed.
